Take Two

By Lynn

Projects On My Design Wall Yesterday and today have been designated as play days for me and I’ve kept myself in a productive mode in my studio. A few days of recess were seriously needed so I gave myself permission to play. Last week, I spent the days babysitting my toddler-age granddaughter. Whew! (Who came up with the word babysitting? What I did was toddler-running!)

Having play days gave me the ability to work in take two mode, both at my design wall and at my work table. With a stack of CDs to listen to, I’ve been having a grand time playing with fabric, totally absorbed with designs and colors. What a great way to beat the cold winter weather!

Life Facets WIP by Lynn ShawOne of the two projects I’m working on is the February Take It Further challenge. I’ve stitched 2 of the 4 quadrants and now, I have decided to replace the background in the blue quadrant. The fabric reads bright-light, making the blue background overwhelming.

The other project I’ve been playing with is a functional scrappy lap quilt. I have placed many of the blocks on my design wall and need a larger area to finish the block placement before I begin stitching all of the blocks together. I’ve taken notes and photos as I have worked on this quilt top. Later this week, I will be sharing the how-to instructions. This is a stashbuster quilt, and it’s quick to stitch and fun to create.

In take two mode, I’ll continue playing in my studio today. But since my design wall is only so large, my next step is to finish stitching the February TIF pieces so that the project can be taken off of the design wallThen I can begin working on the scrappy quilt top again!

Wow! I love a great scrap quilt and this one is wonderful. You mentioned a stack of CDs…what do you listen to while you make a scrap quilt?
