Antique Patchwork

The patchwork blocks in the antique Broken Dishes were stitched with a variety of cottons.

Most of these cotton fabrics date from the last quarter of the 19th century.

None of the fabrics were in used condition, so most were still crisp and unfaded.

There are stripes, shirtings, plaids, and a wonderful selection of prints to study on this quilt top.

I have some purple calico similar to that in the 2nd block. Mine is from the 1980s though.
